“So what’s it really like to be old?” I often ask my patients, who are mostly in their late 80s and 90s, and the responses are unexpected.

“I forgot I was so old,” a 100-year-old patient recently told me, and then excused herself to make it to bingo on time.

Why is this unexpected? Old people forgetting things and going to bingo? Sounds about right to me.

today i saw a celebrity- played poker next to david cross!!!

1. bought a new nalgene the other day; lost old nalgene in south station in boston. briefly considered switching over to a metal bottle but then decided not to.
2. last night i thought i lost my phone but then I found it.
3. almost talked to ira glass but lost my nerve. instead texted someone saying that i almost talked to him.

Is reading books useless?
Whenever I read a book I can't help but think about what I am getting out of it and whether it's worth the time.

I can't feel myself learning anything anymore.

How to Feel Better When It's Sort of Late and You Can't Sleep Because of How You Feel: A Guide

1. Put on some music. (Must be cheerful enough to have a positive effect on you, but not so cheerful as to make you feel alienated from the rest of the world.)

2. Get off the internet. (You will be tempted to watch Gossip Girl or something that you can escape into, but watching it will only depress you when you realize that you just don't enjoy it like usually do because you just don't give a shit.)

3. Clean your room. (Throw out the garbage on the floor. Put clothes in the hamper. Hide everything else in the closet.)

4. Alphabetize your books.

5. Make a list.

6. Do laundry. (optional)

7. Blog about it.

8. Feel depressed that you are on the internet again.

9. Know you should just try to sleep but instead look at Tao Lin's blog.

10. Try not to think about it. Click on a link about an "internet mammal."
